The Aventis Prizes for Science Shortlist 2002

The Aventis Prizes for Science books honor the best in popular science writing. The awards were first established (as the Science Book Prizes) by COPUS and the Science Museum in 1988 to encourage the writing, publishing and sale of popular science books.

The Aventis Prizes are organized jointly by COPUS and the Science Museum.  The aim to encourage the writing, publishing and reading of popular science books. Sponsored by Aventis, the international life sciences company, the awards have a total prize of £30,000. The Aventis Awards are regarded as one of the major book awards.  Popular science books for older readers are considered for the General Prize, worth £10,000.   Science books for younger readers (under 14) are eligible for the Junior Prize, also worth £10,000.

The shortlists are announced in March/April and the Prizes are awarded to the winning authors at a ceremony at the Science Museum in May/June of each year

The Aventis Prizes are awarded to authors of popular non-fiction science and technology books that are judged to contribute the most towards making science more accessible to public audiences. The books must be in the English language and had their first publication in the UK during the previous year. Deadline for entry is the last day of February.
