The Top Literary Award of France - "The French Booker"

The Goncourt Prize for French Fiction

The Académie Goncourt, an association that awards the prestigious Prix Goncourt, for French fiction, has announced the winner for 2002. Past Winners

2002 Pascal Quignard has received France's top literary award for his novel Les Ombres Errantes (Wandering Shadows). Pascal Quignard has written many novels including Tous les Matins du Monde (All the Mornings of the World | Paperback), which was adapted into a movie starring Gerard Depardieu in 1991.

The Goncourt Prize is named for two French literary collaborators who were brothers. Their names were Edmond Louis Antoine de Goncourt (1822-96) and Jules Alfred Huot de Goncourt (1830-70). more | The Goncourt Writings

The Goncourt jury meets each year at the Drouant restaurant in Paris to select the book it deems to be the best new work in French literature. Although the prize comes only with a nominal purse of $10, it guarantees a blitz of media attention and soaring book sales.

Past Winners Goncourt Prize for Fiction

2001 Jean-Christophe Rufin has received France's top literary award for his novel "Rouge Bresil" (Red Brazil).  This is the second win for Rufin, who Rufin won the Goncourt in 1997 for his first novel for L'Abyssin | Paperback (The Abyssinian) Hardcover | Paperback
