PEN/Hemingway Awards

Ernest Hemingway Foundation

Winners, 1975-2001

The PEN/Hemingway Awards are presented by PEN New England to an American author who has not previously published a book of fiction. The late Mary Hemingway created the Hemingway Foundation in 1976 both to honor the memory of Ernest Hemingway and to recognize outstanding first books of fiction. Funding for the award has been provided by the foundation, which has been under the direction of the Hemingway Society since 1987. The recipients of this prestigious prize receive $7,500 at an annual gala in the John F. Kennedy Library in Boston.
